Yes, Im sorry for the low quality paint job. But Top Gear is reporting that the next Nissan GT-R will indeed be packing some electron power. The good news is that at the least Nissan plans to keep on punching at the ring time wars, so any fears of it becoming a glorified Leaf can be dispelled:
"Our performance benchmark is still our 'Ring time, and we expect to see it come down each year with every improvement we make to every model year. That includes any hybrid models in the future."

Predictable, but hey, if we can have the same toys as the Hybrid Hypercars in something a bit more down-to-earth, that's fine. I predict it'll be more KERS than curse.

On a side note: Anybody know who I can but the Quote right after the text? That spacing is visually killing me.

I thought godzilla was a hybrid? Oooh wait no, hermaphrodite... Totally different...

Outrageous ring times posted by an even more leadweight lump of engineering that will now aggressively manage not just the distribution of power, grip, brakes and all controls, but the very generation of power itself at the pedal, severing the least connection between "pedal push" and "engine go vroom"? All this and showing off the uneven marriage between green tech and semblance of performance? Gosh, sign me up.
The joy of driving thing - she no is there no more.

I'm cool so long as its a power boost, not an assisted drive. A la Kers, not Hybrid Synergy Drive.

Godzilla may be a friend to children as well, but is he a f'ing rocketship and a gymnast? Totally Gamera's bitch.

No kidding. We soon will all just show up to the local track, get out of the cars, and send them off. We will watch from the stands to see who's wins, then let them take us home.

Oddly, this sounds like more fun than actually riding the GT-R around the track in some respects.

I can't see them putting KERS in it. If not the guarantee is going to have a bunch of disclaimers like this one:
Please don't use KERs until at least on 3rd gear, other wise you will void the transmission warranty.
(Then a surge of YouTube videos of people grenading their transmissions because they never read the owners manual)

I like the driving of a GT-R. It's not fun and has no soul, but it's kind of like a roller coaster you can control. Still better than a roller coaster I can't...

If they use KERS, it won't be before the transmission. That would be an idiotic move. It would be at the axle or differential level, to augment the ATTESSA, closer to how the Mercedes Benz Electric Drive allocates electric power. Nissan isn't interested in just providing more power with increased fuel economy, they can do a million things to the engine to get that. They want to improve the power split on the 4WD system and allow for better torque vectoring, which is what this hybrid system will do, while also providing additional power.

Nothing surprising here. NISMO and the GT-R team work closely together and the team up with Williams Advanced Engineering to carry out cross-development on products means that a KERS unit would make sense (especially since the first "release" of the collaboration should have some teeth to it).

I want KERS in my 20k hatchback.
Someone make it so.
